How To Begin Solid Foods
Starting Baby On Solid Food
Hi Moms! I did some research on what we should eat and when. I
share my findings in this article as well as a couple of personal
happenings in our home.
Milk is all your child will need til at the very least 4 months old. There
does come a time though when breast milk or formula will no longer
be enough.
Full-term babies, especially, will need extra nourishment. They may
need more iron from other sources by around 6 months.
Baby Food
Mom just started my 6-month-old brother on baby food. Applesauce
as well as pureed vegetables, pureed chicken and beef.
After my research on avocados, she’s going to introduce that to him
too.
Babies that aren’t begun on solid foods by the age of 9 – 12 months
might have a problem accepting solid foods later!
When to Start Regular Food
Shortly after introducing baby food, you can begin giving them some
of yours. Whenever Your child shows an interest in sampling food from
your plate.
In time, your little one will try to reach out for it. When they start to grab
food, it’s normally the time to offer him some.
Some Infants Start Early
In many cases, a baby doctor may advise mom to start food even
earlier. For example, when a baby’s weight gain isn’t proceeding at the
preferred rate.
Breastfed Better Enabled
Breastfed kids will absorb solid foods much better. Breast milk
contains enzymes which aid the digestion of fats, proteins, as well as
starch.
Breastfed babies will likewise have had a range of various tastes in
their young lives. The various foods the mom eats will enter her milk.
Introducing Solid Foods
When the child starts to eat food, it matters little what order it is given.
You should, protect against anything spicy at first, though.
If she reaches for something like your potato, that should be fine. Of
course, let it cool a bit, if it’s hot.
Amount
You can offer your child the foods he seems to be curious about. Allow
them to enjoy the food.
You probably don’t have to worry about the amount they eat at first.
Much of mine ended up on the floor!
Meat or Cereal
One of the best sources of iron you can give her is meat. Cereal has
iron, but it can be poorly absorbed and could cause constipation.
If they don’t have molars yet, make sure to ground it up. Beef,
turkey, and chicken are fine.
Mom tried giving pork to my older sister when she was young.
She got sick!
Hope that helps, moms. Have a great day!
