How To Know When To Potty Train
Hi moms! Here are some helpful ways mom used to potty train me.
It’s important for moms to know that potty training is a huge phase in the
development process of their baby. Postponing the process for too long
may hinder the advancement of your little one.
Normally we are all set to learn by 18 months. I finished my training 2
months ago!
Mom realized I was ready when I could pull my pants down myself.
Also, I could follow basic directions and my stools were formed and soft.
She also noticed I liked playing by myself and could be independent.
Mom started asking me to tell her when I needed to go.
The Time It Takes
When all of these indicators were met she knew I was ready and the
training would be easier. The amount of time it takes to complete the
training can differ a lot. Mine took about 2 weeks.
It can depend on your baby’s willingness to learn. Also, how much
time mom has to give to the training. Generally, it takes anywhere from
a few days to a few months.
Girls A Little Easier
I read where girls can be a little easier to train, but not by much. Girls
though have a better chance of getting an infection.
Look for a frequent peeing that’s painful. If that happens, take baby to a
doctor for her medical opinion.
Potty Chair
When you’ve decided that your baby is all set for training you need to
get a child potty chair. Even though mom and I didn’t use any aids like
videos, pictures or toys, that is an option if you choose.
A Routine
Mom developed a routine with me. She would take me to the
bathroom when I told her I needed to go. When we got there she told
me what the potty was for and sat me down.
When I forgot to tell her and she changed my diaper, she took me to
the potty and put the diaper in showing me where it’s supposed to go.
She would say over and over that it was up to me to go in there
whenever I needed to by myself.
Night Training
Night potty training can take another couple of years. I still sleep in a
crib I can’t get out of so I have to wear an overnight diaper.
Once they switch to a big bed make sure to get a waterproof mattress
pad. Check how often they wet the bed after limiting their liquids
before bedtime.
If they stay dry for a week straight, they may be ready. If they have an
accident some nights, don’t punish them. Self-control will come the
older they get.
Wow, what a coincidence. I have to go! Have a great day!
