How To Childproof Your Home

by

Hi moms!  Over 2 million kids are hurt or killed every year inside
their own house.
That’s sad, and why it’s vital that your home is a
safe area for them.

Here are some pointers on just how to childproof your house:

Electric Outlets

See to it that you cover all electric outlets. We have covers that are
simply placed right into the outlet. You can also decide to get new
faceplates that are safe.

Place Toxic Stuff Out of Reach

Toxic things should be put high up in a cabinet or closet.

Also, it’s a good idea to have the number for poison control
alongside your phone in case your child ingests anything harmful.

Ovens Should Be Locked

Your baby may open a hot oven or other appliance in their
curiosity. There are baby safety locks available. Some months ago,
I tried opening our dishwasher.

It wasn’t running, but there were knives and forks in there!
Good thing mom had it locked!

Babies Can Drown

It takes very little water for a baby to drown in. Even the toilet has
enough. You can get a toilet lock.

We just have a doorknob cover on our bathroom doors. The doors
are kept closed and us little guys can’t turn the knob.

Hot Water Heater

Your child can scald themselves if your water is too hot. Make sure
the water temperature in your water heater is 120 degrees or less.

Sharp Edges

A lot of furnishings have sharp edges that may be harmful.
Like table
corners. Baby could fall on them and get seriously hurt.

There are corner guards available to prevent that from happening.

Safety Gates

There are child safety gates you can get to block off certain areas
from
your little one. Like both ends of your staircase. Also, in front
of a fireplace.

Reachable Items

Babies are curious. We are always reaching for stuff. Always keep
an eye
on where you put unsafe things. You don’t want knives or
scissors to be
reachable.

Also, hot things like coffee. Breakable things, especially made
of glass. Like dishes, cups, and even figurines.

Small Things

Childproofing your house doesn’t have to take much time. Just be
aware
of everything around you.

Keep an eye out for small things baby might choke on, for
example.

OK, until next time. Have a great day!
