Infant Care
Baby Care 101
Hi moms! Here are some tips about caring for baby.
Some moms seem to slide into motherhood with more grace than
others. Of course, no one’s born a specialist when it comes to infant
care.
No matter how many books, posts, and studies you read on how to
make an infant stop sobbing, it doesn’t guarantee it will work on your
infant.
Motherhood and infant care is a trial and error setup, mostly.
Why Baby’s Cry
Getting a great night of sleep is something most parents wish for.
Particularly if their child is susceptible to waking them up during the
night.
Children cry – that’s natural. Before we can talk, we weep cause it’s
the only method we can communicate our discomforts.
For toddlers, weeping is a stress system that permits us to minimize
the effects of aggravations or fear.
There are a lot of reasons a child cries. The primary factor usually
has something to do with their diaper.
Some would say that the best way to stop a baby from crying is with
the ideal child toy. Many moms say that isn’t always the case though.
Some of The Reasons
Hungry or Thirsty
Try feeding your infant. Breastfeed or give your baby milk formula.
For newborn babies, there are two things they continuously do.
Consume and sleep.
Diaper Change
Check your baby’s diaper for any indications of dampness. This is
one of the most common reasons that babies wake parents up at
night.
Teething
After baby reaches 4 months, teeth will start growing in. Sometimes,
later. Like 5 to 7 months.
You can choose to provide baby a teether or a chewable food. We
have to chew on something to minimize the pain we feel when
we start teething.
There are also other remedies and tricks on helping a teething baby.
Have to Burp
This one can be challenging, particularly for new mamas. The normal
reaction when the child cries is to either feed it or diaper change.
To make an infant burp, place his or her tummy down on your
shoulders. Then carefully rub or pat your infant’s back.
Sleepy or worn out.
Once again, infants require a lot of sleep and food. If an infant is worn
out or missed a routine nap, attempt rocking him or her to sleep.
Baby Feeding Schedule
How often do infants have to feed? That is the question every brand-
new moms and dads fret about solving. Most newborn standards say
about every 2 to 3 hours a day.
Sleeping With You
Most professionals encourage keeping the baby with you in your
space. They say this can prove advantageous for each mom and dad
when it comes to night feeding.
Having your baby in the bed with you permits you to nurse the infant
without totally getting up yourself. I question this.
My mom says she did this with Harper, my older sister a few days
after she was born.
She rolled over on her during the night and Harper almost
stopped breathing before mom woke up!
Night Weaning
There will be changes in your child’s feeding schedule as your child
grows. Since your infant’s stomach is growing, her feeding schedule
starts to normalize.
This will mean more time in between feedings. As early as 6
months, though some specialists suggest a year, you can start
night weaning your child.
Like other phases, night weaning takes time. Some parents postpone
weaning cause of all the weeping and sleepless nights they’ll go
through.
You can cut down gradually, though. Cut down the amount of milk
at night. Eventually, no more than 5 minutes. There will come a day
baby starts sleeping thru till morning.
Quiet Nursing
Nurse your child in a peaceful space the last time they’re fed
prior to going to bed. Studies I saw reveal that infants take in 25%
more if they aren’t sidetracked by their environment.
This can decrease the number of times you’ll need to get up during
the night. You may also say goodbye to night feeding sooner!
Infant Sleeping Positions
Lots of moms and dads fear Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
For this reason, putting their infant to sleep can be a frightening task.
SIDS also referred to as crib death, is the leading cause of death of
infants one month to a year.
What makes it scarier is the fact that no one really understands what
triggers it.
Some studies show babies sleeping on their stomach have the
tendency to be the ones who die from SIDS.
That’s why most specialists recommend they lie face up.
There is a danger though for older babies rolling over in their sleep.
They might get suffocated with the blanket or pillows in the
baby’s crib.
One answer for this is to tuck the blanket under two pillows on either
side. My mom just uses breathable blankets for us.
Infant Nursery Safety
Nurseries are as the name suggests – a place to nurse and care for
the infant. A baby’s crib should not be near a radiator, as baby
might overheat.
Cribs should also not be under a window. If there’s a draft, baby
could get a cold or even pneumonia!
Climbing
To keep me from climbing out of the crib, as I grew, mom turned the
low part towards the wall. She then dropped the mattress to the floor.
Unfortunately, it worked!
She at least gave me a pillow recently, so it’s comfier in there.
Furniture should be moved away from the window so baby can’t
climb near there as she grows.
OK, mom says it’s nap time so that’s all for child care 101.
